CU teaches athletes the dangers of doping

Each year, college athletes feel the pressure to keep up with their competitors -- and, judging by doping scandals that crop up worldwide, many turn to illegal substances to boost their training. Meanwhile, many over-the-counter supplements (and other products, like Vitamin Water) actually contain traces of illegal substances, making them hard to avoid.

Each semester the CU athletic department hosts a seminar to inform athletes of the dangers and legal penalties of steroids.

"The idea behind steroids is that it can get you from point A to point B maybe a little bit quicker," said Miguel Rujeda, head athletic trainer at CU. "That type of mentality and thought process is discouraged here."
