On Sunday, 19-year-old Jason Wren was found dead in his fraternity house. The teen's father said that Jason Wren, a former Arapahoe High School honor student, drank heavily before he died.
Wren was kicked out of the dorms a few weeks ago, and afterward, moved into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon frat house. His parents suspect that the Wren's dorm expulsion was related to alcohol abuse. Allegedly the night before, Jason and his friends were competing in a "Man Challenge" where the objective is to drink and be the last one to vomit.
At CU, when a student's housing contract is terminated for alcohol or drug violtions, the University always notifies parents. CU's enforces the "Two Strike Policy" for alcohol -- students can be suspended after two drinking violations.
With the first offense, parents are notified immediately, and the student is required to attend alcohol awareness classes, community service and probation. On the second offense, parents are contacted, and the student receives community service and referral to the city of Boulder's "2nd Offender" program.
During orientation, incoming freshman are strongly recommended to complete an online alcohol education course during their first semester on campus. E-CHUG, which stands for Electronic Check Up to Go, is a web survey that allows students to enter information about their own drinking patterns and receive feedback about their own personal alcohol abuse.
CU is offering outreach is to support students who have been impacted by Wren's sudden death. Victim's Assistance and Counseling and Psychological Services are offering their services to students who have been affected by the situation.
