Black Mold Causing Problems in Boulder Homes

This is not a normal kind of mold. Toxins released from the mold in humid, wet areas -- like behind floorboards, inside cabinets, and underneath drywall -- can cause serious health problems that could lead to hospitalization. "Waking up not breathing, asthma, sinus infections, and swollen hands," said Boulder Resident Jill Iwaski. "But the biggest problem that was the hardest to convey to others was what they call brain fog, which is neurological problems"
Iwaski no longer has many belongings, and is living in the Boulder Outlook Hotel while searching for a suitable home. "You can't save anything" she said. "You can't bring it to the next place, bring it to another house, or you start a whole other mold problem.
With the onset of spring, students will begin their search for new housing, and rental agencies are required by federal law to have all tenants sign a mold addendum. This addendum requires the tenants keep the house clean, but there is no guarantee from rental agencies that the house is mold free. All students are encouraged to have their house tested to avoid this potentially dangerous mold.

If you suspect that your loved one is being exposed to mold while living in a retirement home or assisted living you should request for that nursing home to have a mold inspection done immediately to ensure the safety of all of the people staying in the facility. (Continued…)
