Murid is a senior political science major at the University of Colorado and the field organizer for New Era Colorado. Over the last year Murid and other fellow students registered 12,000 voters and organized the kuakas for different student groups. Now that Voter Registration is over, Shad is handing out New Era Voter Guides to students.
During each election New Era researches the ballot measures and candidates to produce a voter guide that shows who they have endorsed and why.
New Era is a non profit organization run by people working towards a hands-on democracy. It was started by young college graduate students who wanted more opportunities to get involved with politics. Today it is still run and directed by young people from the community. They are not affiliated with Democrats or Republicans, instead they support progressive solutions to the real problems that face our generation's future. Since most students can't afford to donate their money towards a political candidate or political cause, they are donating their time and passion in the form of face-to-face voter contact.
