With 18 yoga studios in Boulder, yoga is becoming a popular physical activity for Boulder residents and CU Students. "I love yoga. I think that it is great for your body and your mind," said CU student Christine Nassetta. "It is easier that going to the gym for me."

Not only is the yoga practice good for toning the body, it is also a good way to practice balance, concentration, and coordination. "I feel more toned and more energetic. I like to go at 6 a.m. before school," said Nassetta. "It is better than having a cup of coffee for me."

Class sizes at CorePower yoga on 27th street in Boulder have nearly doubled since August. Yoga instructor Monica Salazar believes everyone can benefit from yoga. "I think it is just a powerful philosophy and that is what is making the studio grow," she said.

As yoga increases in popularity, it is also becoming an economic powerhouse, with merchandise such as yoga mats, water bottles, and jackets costing up to $100. Last year, the yoga franchise LuluLemon based in Canada, brought in more than $169 million.

Lululemon employee Casey Klein believes the clothes cater to the Corepower style of yoga. "Yoga clothes can be easily trashed with all of the sweat and all the activity you are doing in them, so our clothes are wicking and really high quality," she said. Yoga patrons believe the clothes are a worthwhile investment, leaving more time to concentrate on the practice.

Fashion aside, yoga classes can cost upwards of $100 a month, but the benefits seem to make it all worthwhile. "Once you start you just get addicted to it and you will do anything to keep your practice," Klein said.
