Lauren Miles, a Junior at the University of Boulder, Colorado, has been trying to answer that very question. She's planning on living with five of her friends, but with two abroad at the moment, there's a lot of pressure on Miles to get their house for next semester.
"It's so stressful, not going lie," said Miles. "It's really stressful between class and just everything. I'm just busy and on top of them we have to go and find a house."
For the past two weeks, Miles has looked at 11 places on and around the Hill. Each house had its pros and cons and only one was a potential for a living situation. Miles is starting to wonder if a home actually exists for her and her friends.
"We are looking online and in the Colorado Daily for different ads," Miles said. "I'm contacting people through e-mail and calling them and setting up showings of the houses."
Miles' situation has gotten hectic because, not only is it hard for her roommates to find a place that they all agree on, but some of the realtors have been hard to deal with.
"It's not professional at all," Miles said. "They just kind of show up, here's the house, I don't really know anything about it but check it out."
But some good will come from the experience. Miles said she is very excited to live on her own and can't wait for the great memories that will be created with her roommates.
